This deck and ramp in Sacramento had seen better days. The boards were split and worn, weeds were growing up through the gaps, and when we looked underneath, the wood was rotted out. At that point, patching wasn't going to make it safe.
What we did
We tore out the old deck and ramp completely and rebuilt them from the ground up. That included a new deck, a new ramp, new railings and new steps, all finished in a warm redwood tone.
The result
The deck and ramp are solid and safe to walk on again, and the new wood gives the whole side of the house a cleaner, warmer look. The before and after photos, taken looking down the same ramp, show just how far gone the old one was.
Repair or rebuild?
Not every tired deck needs to be replaced. A few bad boards can often be swapped out. But when the rot reaches the wood underneath, or the deck feels soft and uneven in a lot of places, rebuilding is usually the safer and smarter choice. We'll give you an honest answer either way.
